Yes exactly... I perceived a very strong change as well. Was apparent immediately upon doing it. I made the deletions based upon critical listening after deleting each file. Most important was getting rid of the dll files starting with the 'wmp'. I specifically wanted to delete them, as it did not make a Very strong change by just cutting the Windows Media folder from the Program Files. I suppose those files were still messing up things in the background.
Wlowes :- I think ur soundcard uses the 'wincard.dll' file which i specified. As i am using Juli@, it worked for me, but since u r using different soundcard, it must have had a conflict. I suggest u put it back in the system32 folder IF u have not permanently deleted it. If not let me know & i shall send it to u by email...
Theob :- Yes the edginess has vanished. I too was noticing the vocals to be a little strained especially in the lower-mids. If u have noticed, the mid-bass has also cleaned up, thus cleaning up the Vocal ranges as well.
Riboge :- You got that right !! the Imaging now looks spot-on, because the noise-floor has gone down making the spacing between intruments to EXIST. Prior to this, it was'nt completely deliniated. Now that the background is more Black, we are able to localize the presence of instruments more clearly without straining.
This is very inspiring. I had made many Hardware-level upgrades to my cMP like making Linear supplies & Ferrites & Caps & what not. But im surprised that these Software-Level changes can lead to an equal or if i could say a better improvement than the former. And best of all, its FREE :)
