Did I destroy my MB?

If anyone has an idea about this problem, I would greatly appreciate your thoughts.

To "run-in" my GIGABYTE MB I have been leaving it running playing, in repeat mode, a selection. To save "wear & tear" on the HDD I found I could turn it off and the selected file would keep playing.

Half of the time I would turn off the machine before re-starting the HDD, the other half I would turn it on - just to see how long it took for the blue screen to appear. Sometimes it would not appear at all, the machine would just turn off. I forgot to mention that this blue screen would appear after I selected SHUT DOWN.

Well, the LAST time I turned on the HDD, with the machine running, when I turned the machine back on, it did not come on. It acted just like it did when I installed my first TWO (defective)GIGABYTE boards, nothing happened at all. I am figuring/hoping it is the MB since it is cheaper to replace than the CPU. I thought (I hoped) I had messed up something that could be cured with clearing BIOS. I have tried numerous times, shorting the pins, taking the battery out and leaving it out for twelve hours. Made no difference at all. Will not turn on, no flashing lights on the keyboard; attached to re-implement BIOS settings.

When the machine was left on I had a fan blowing through the "cooler" attached to the CPU, a very large THERMALRIGHT piece. I know there was no overheating. I had the voltage set as low as I have been able to get, .912 volts per CPUZ. All recommended settings per cics.

I have ordered a new MB.

I know one thing, I will never turn off the HDD while the computer is running again.

Any reassuring thoughts about my diagnosis? (could I have ruined the CPU?)

I got to listen to 1.1 for a few hours before this and found it to be a yet clearer view into the recording. Much more space between voices and instruments and simply more definition of the sounds these instruments are making.

I have not had a chance to hear what carcass's setting will do and it is driving me crazy!

cics is not exaggerating, his system has approached the best analogue and surpasses average LP's handily. One can enjoy CD's with no regrets.

Thanks,

Rick McInnis
