Quest of finding the "best" cMP^2 PSU

121.254.127.215

Unlike most other components, the cMP^2 doesn't yet have a "definitive" choice for the main PSU. Quoted directly from cics' official cMP guide: "High quality PSU for CPU and mobo. MGE’s XG Magnum 500 is best choice offering no fan interference but they seem to have supply issues. Other alternatives? Corsair, CoolerMaster. Choose one with 700W power – multiple 12V rails offered with lower ripple noise. Also, ensure cable management is provided – allows removal of unused power cables which helps cooling and reduces RF pickup (antennae effects)."

I believe that cics recommends the XG Magnum mostly due to fan interference (or lack thereof). Assuming that fan interference can be avoided by turning it off (a friend accomplished that without a PSU meltdown), we should be able to achieve better results with cics' alternative recommendations (or other low-ripple PSUs).

For those interested in helping the community in finding the "best" PSU, please share the PSUs that you have been using, the sonics of each, and the top candidate(s) you have in mind.

I currently use the external version of the XG Magnum PSU from cics' recommendation. Can't really complain about the sonics, especially after the latest release of cMP^2. But according to several internet and real life sources, ripple tests say that the Magnum PSU isn't as impressive as the old favorite Antec EW430. The top candidate for my next PSU is the Corsair HX520. The PSU has extraordinary ripple test results, modular cables that can be easily detached, and high quality MIJ capacitors. I will probably replace my XG Magnum with the Corsair HX520 next week, and I'll give you guys a brief report when I do.
