I am sorry for your trouble. I am surprised the gigabyte mobo does not have a power led.. Anyway, it should “beep” if it encounters a problem (see p79 of manual). I am assuming it does not beep else you would have mentioned it. Therefore, a good sign..

USB flash drive will work just as well as a floppy. From manual: “Extract the file and save the new BIOS file (e.g. g31ms2l.f1) to your floppy disk, USB flash drive, or hard drive. Note: The USB flash drive or hard drive must use FAT32/16/12 file system.”

Good idea to remove the sound card (if installed) or any other “add-ons” just in case it is suddenly causing a problem or conflict during power up..
