I still remember the quality dropping off sharply when that happened.

I guess it's dropped of even more since the corporate takeover. Did you read the review of the Levinon 20 + 26? At least it sounded like you were having fun then.

Not if Jim Austin can hear zero difference between two of anything (except maybe identical units from the same production line). Pretty much everybody on this forum can hear the difference between various cables. Art Dudley can't seem to (or doesn't care if he can). Jim Austin can't hear the difference between two completely different brands of DACs using completely different technologies throughout?

Send him off to Consumer Reports or Stereo Review (with the ghost of Julian Hirsch). That is just plain insulting. I wouldn't even mind if he said he *preferred* the sound of the Benchmark to the PS Audio. But to pretend that they sound identical in every regard, with every type of music on any input at any sample rate is the height of lunacy, or (as I entitled this thread) a new nadir for Stereophile.

Go to the Hydrogen Audio forums and look at the terms of use there. That's where that clown should be writing - not for a magazine where things are judged on how they sound. I can't believe that you hired him and are defending him on this.

Do you think you could hear *no difference whatsoever* between the two products? Are you planning to do a follow up? I believe you have a PS Audio DAC as well, correct? It should be pretty easy for you to listen.

Then you are in a pickle. If you hear a difference and he doesn't what does that tell you? If neither of you can hear a difference, do you think that both your ears are so well trained that nobody in the world could hear a difference between them?

If they are truly indistinguishable by everybody in the world, that implies that they are both perfect, and they should both be in class A+ by themselves, with everything else demoted, because if they audibly differ it must only be by adding coloration and therefore being imperfect.

If I am confused, please tell me where I am going off the track.

Thanks.
