Thanks very much!

Interesting reading. I remembered that it wasn't a review that I would have been happy to receive. The fact that they rushed the "S" version into production so quickly (along with the excuse of "unprecedented demand") was a pretty clear indication that nobody was particularly happy with the original. This was back when ARC was still king of preamps, with even a CJ PV-5 not far behind for only $2000 or so. All of that money on a (admittedly beautiful - still one of my favorite *looking* preamps ever) 1" faceplate and expensive parts just to get mediocre sound - as I recall it had the exact same op-amps as the Adcom GPA-??? that retailed for $700. A story much like Lexicon's repackaging of the $500 Oppo and selling it for $3500, except they actually had to design a bunch of stuff, not just stick a pre-made player in a box.

Like I've asked before, is it any wonder that high-end audio has a poor reputation?
