Re: Thank you

Don T holds great opinions regardless of the facts. The great stupidity in all this is for an audio equipment manufacturer not to have understood what auto manufacturers did long ago: the used market is the only thing that keeps the new market going. If a product is good enough to warrant, let's say, a three-year guaranty, what is the relevance of the product having changed hands in those three years? I am certain that as is the case for insurance companies, statistics could be gotten in the case of audio equipment manufacturers to indicate that a second owner, or worst yet a third or fourth, for no discernable reason, poses a greater risk of a claim. The whole notion is bogus. This boils down to a company wanting to limit its exposure and using any kind of specious argument to do so. Face it: the whole audio high-end market is based on the unfair (and in many places illegal) practice of retail price maintenance, in other words forcing another independent business person into selling a product for no less than a given price. The tactic used by McIntosh here has nothing, zilch, nada to do with protecting the consumer and everything to do with protecting their company. Why not call a spade a spade? This is not a grey market issue. I don’t think anyone believes the words “like new” mean that it is new. Someone else has already explained this, so I won’t belabour the point. Nothing indicates that the often times seen “blank warranty card included” was used in this case. In that kind of case, I would understand quite well the manufacturer being upset since a phoney date of purchase could be indicated. Then again, normally the manufacturer requires an invoice on top of the warranty registration card. In this jurisdiction, no commercial vendor or manufacturer can require as a condition of honouring its warranty that a registration card or some similar notification be sent in. It would be nice to hear someone from McIntosh explain this pr fiasco.
