The reason behind this is simple. Until they know that you will support it, they are scared that you may actually not like it, and say so.

There needs to be some common sense in this. When high resolution digital has now approached and in cases surpassed the quality of high end analog, who needs a propriety lossy format that is controlled by a new money making machine?
