I can't help but wonder...

...it a bit less confrontation in the initial e-mail exchange might have led to dialogue and eventually understanding between the two parties. Maybe after everybody sleeps on it a bit, communication can be given a second chance.

One of my customers made this statement to me (which I can't remember exactly, so here's the gist): "Very few people are as big a jerk as we think they are".

My amateurish suggestion would be for ethannn and Mr. Cooper to each try very hard to justify the other's point of view (and not their own!). This little exercise - which I'm not expecting to see written out here on the internet - is about as close as they can come to walking a mile in the other man's shoes. Note that this is not the way of the legal system - it's the way of human beings who wish to live together in peace and mutual consideration. And from there perhaps they can begin to communicate, and maybe even come to an understanding that will be as fair as possible to everyone. I do not presume to know who is "right" and who is "wrong" here; I'm exceedingly poor at making such judgment calls. But I do believe that honestly looking at things from your apparent adversary's point of view holds enormous possibilities.

Tomorrow is always a new day, in which it's easier to let go of the cherished grievances of yesterday, and try something new.
