So when the two boxes are connected with fiber-optic links, and the clock is in the DAC (running upstream to the transport), how in the heck can you explain that changing power cords on the transport could make any difference in the jitter?

I honestly can't think of any jitter-related explanation. So something is clearly going on here, but nobody knows what. At this point, I think that Peter Belt's explanations make as much sense as anybody else's...
