Pat D states; I suspected as much. The specifications for your Mastersound 845 don't mention the output impedance or the damping factor (from which the output impedance could be derived). I'm sure it sounds excellent with your Aliante speakers. It probably has a high output impedance, so you probably were not getting the same response with the S2 as I do with my amp.Pat I'm sure you are absolutely 100% correct that we are not getting the same responses with S2. As the tone of this post is so much more civil, I will as promised respond in like kind.
First I'll share a little more information with you about the listening session with the Paradigm S2 and their owner. The owner was selling them to upgrade to the Paradigm S8 Signatures. He really, really liked Paradigm speakers. He said he prefered their sound over the S2s with subwoofers. As I've never heard either the S8 of the S2 with subs I'm unable to offer my opinion on which I'd prefer, myself. I can think of more than a couple of reasons why one might prefer on of those setups over the other, so I think it's just a matter of preference and what fits in your room.
The Paradigm's owner used, as best as I can recall, British solidstate components by Musical Fidelity. I remember him saying something to the extent that they were the best of their "affordable" components. He had/has the top of the A-series preamp, poweramp and CDP (I don't know what those are. I never seen them or heard them, I'm just repeating his words to the best of my recollection)
What you might find surprising though Pat is the owner of the Paradigm felt he NEVER heard them sound as good at his home as they did on my system! He was shocked by how much better a speaker they were than he realized. In fact he even wanted to know what the Mastersound cost and debated over whether changing components might not actually be the better choice for achieving a more realistic replication of music. So I don't believe there was a mis-match of components "if" that's what you're thinking.

My amplifier is spec'd to have an output impedance of .05 ohms and so its frequency response into a speaker load would be almost as flat into a speaker load as into a resistor. I chose my speakers using amps with a low output impedance. Most tube amps have a high output impedance and so many would not sound the same with my speakers.I know most tube amps have a high output impedance, but again I say given the S2 owners reaction to hearing them on my system, I believe we had a pretty good synergistic match. If you noticed before I never said the S2's were bad. I thought OVERALL they were pleasant, but the Aliantes were presenting a more realistic replication of the music, which was an assessment that even the Paradigm's owner agreed with. Your speakers aren't bad Pat. A tad bright and just not as realistic a replication of music as the Aliante's on my system, but also consider that the owner felt they sounded better at my home than his own. You certainly might have achieved a wonderful synergistic match at your home. I cannot say you haven't as I've never heard your system.

You are the one who chose gratuitously to insert a discussion of my speakers into the thread, not me. You were simply trying to provoke me.If I was trying to "provoke" anything it was an honest, clear response and not another audio politician debate, nothing more.
===================================================================
Now you try to shift that responsibility on to me. Another trick.Not a trick at all, just accept that you said something that wasn't true. You had NO idea if I had or hadn't done an actual side-by-side comparison of the Paradigm S2 and the Aliante Pinafarina Ones. Even though I outright told you I had you wanted to believe I didn't, so you read into my words. You made a mistake Pat, I didn't trick you, you tricked yourself!
===================================================================
Again, I have offered no opinion on your Aliante speakers, it is you who imply I have--another transparent trick.I'm sorry, where did I say what your opinion of the Aliantes were? I don't recall doing this, I may have but don't recall it so refresh my memory please and after I read what I said, I'll explain why I said it, ok?

You are one of the very few who has the bad manners to look in Inmate Systems so as to be able bash another person's equipment. I don't think that's the purpose of Inmate Systems.I don't think it's bad manners at all. When one looks in Inmate Systems we discover many things about the one we are debating with. If I take your words from within Inmates Systems and copy them verbatim to support my postion about something we might be in disagreement with, that IMHO, is not bad manners but rather allowing your "opponent" in the debate to hang themselves with their own words.
Let me give you an example of what I use Inmates Systems for. If I look and see the person has a $200 Pioneer Receiver, a $50 BSR Equalizer and is listening to a Emerson CDP via Bose 301 speakers and all Radio Shack wires, I wouldn't give his opinions as much weight as I would yours knowing what your system actually is.
If you find that offensive, I'm sorry. But if that person started trying to tell me how inaccurate my system is etc, I just couldn't give his opinions much weight at all. In that case I'd give you more credence and such.
I'm saddened to see you're still trying to lay your mistruth at my feet because you felt "tricked" however no matter what you feel the reason was you did speak a mistruth when you claimed I was pretending to be familiar with your speakers when I wasn't? All you needed to do was ask me how, when, where etc and you would have known the truth you now know. You chose not to ask, you chose to assume. The fault is yours Pat not mine.
