RE: The Audio Critic has a different viewpoint....

The Audio Critic used to think amplifiers sounded different in 1976, now he's 33 years older and doesn't - not surprising. Here's what The Audio Critic said about the original Electrocompaniet amplifier: "Audio freaks - Eat your hearts out: This is the worlds best sounding amplifier" in 1976.

Moral of the story: Don't let someone older than you tell you what you can't hear.

As for the Meyer & Moran paper, no where do they even confirm that these "higher resolution" commercial recordings actually contain more data information than their CD counterparts. How can one make such comparisons if you first don't confirm there's more information presented to the listeners to compare?! I don't see how that paper passed the scrutiny and be deemed publishable.

What they should have done is first select digital recording equipment which can actually perform to 19-20 bit resolution (good luck - few devices can achieve this spec). Then setup a live feed at a studio with 3 listening options in the control room: Live feed direct from musicians; through 24/96 or DSD separate A/D & D/A; through 16/44.1 separate A/D & D/A. Then hear how these 2 digital formats compare with the all-analog live feed.
