Good point!.

If the recording is binaural. Active equalizers make alot of sense for those that aren't. That's if one thinks that the accurate reproduction of waveforms at the listening position is the best we can do with a stereo recording.

I've been listening to low quality mono bootlegs and though I don't prefer them to decent stereo fare I find the live quality captured by even such a primitive methods severely missed in most standard stereo releases including "live" recordings.
