You say - "(This is why orchestral music IMO is compromised the most from digitization- It requires the most bandwidth, due to the intermodulation products generated by so many different musical instruments.)"
Ok fine but why then were classical music fans the first to jump on the digital bandwagon and the first to dispose of their vinyl? If I recall the argument most often presented was that the ticks and pops inherent in vinyl reproduction were too much a distraction.
Yea sure there are some classical music loving audiophiles still clinging to their vinyl (I'm one of them BTW) however our numbers pale in comparison to those who've went totally digital.
Now I've got a real hard time believing that many of us vinyl loving audiophiles actually prefer vinyl because of it's technical superiority as you and Tony are suggesting. If anything the colorations and choice of character allowed by chosing highly refined subjectively designed phono components is much more likely the reason behind our preference for vinyl - not the claimed technical limitations associated with digital.
