jneutron are you purposely mudding the waters? I said the "ideal" would be no dielectric, I never said there was no dielectric in reality. As I stated I was purposely making it simple so it would be easy for EVERYONE to understand. So for this easy example the "ideal" wire had no insulation or dielectric on it, thus I was making a point that was hopefully easy to understand. I didn't want to complicate it with vacuums and such to make it too technical. You appear to be purposely making it technical so only a few will understand. But that's typically what most Objectivists do.

Also in keeping it easy the permeability of the media, could easily be viewed as it's permittivity. As the less permeability it has the more it impedes the expansion and collapsing of the magnetic field, but again you'd rather make this difficult, which doesn't surprise me at all.
