My initial statement was clearly not meant to be a general statement applying to all CD's of all types. Just two CD's where one has been frozen. It *may* be possible to alter a CD such that all the data that comes off of it is the same, and it still (somehow) sounds different. Based on the design of the transport & the laser pickup, there does not appear to be any way for this to happen, though. We need some sort of valid hypothesis as to what is occuring.
No such hypothesis has ever been presented. We have only completely subjective listening tests.
This is not to say that nothing can possibly be happening to improve the sound, but it also certainly does not prove that anything actually is happening to the sound. Given this and the lack of a reasonable hypothesis to back up the claims... It certainly seems like a good time to bring some skepticism to bear.
My main point, was that people (such as you, with your 'increased power drain' statement) spouting -to put it plainly- a whole bunch of BS that just sounds impressive, is not helping ANYTHING. You are making things WORSE.
People who don't actually understand it will pick up this nonsense and the disinformation will spread even more. This is not helping the art of audio one whit. It surprises me when I hear this sort of stuff from people who are NOT selling something. What exactly is gained, and by whom?
