Re: Speaker measurements vs Subjective Reviews...

firstly the reviews and the sound do not correlate as much as I would like -- whether a speaker measures well or not is usually completely ignored in what gets say a recommended componant listing in Stereophile.

Looking back over 17 years of speake listening I can safely say that I prefer more efficient speakers to Less efficient less sensitive designs. Measurements can tell me that. Generally speaking if I took all the speakers I have heard and say that equals 100 then speakers in the bottom half would be less efficient slim line east coast designed speakers - the top half would be most everything that is not designed like that.

So I can look at the measurements and get some indication of what is not going to impress. Nevertheless there are enough exceptions to this that would not make rule out an audition.

Long term fatigue from first impression wow factor and test environment versus non test environments are huge factors. Measurements will never rule out an audition for me. The designers who put the touches on by ear seem to get it better.

And even if 95% of listeners all choose one preference -- how do you know for sure that YOU won;t be on of the 5% that does not? Unless there is a 100% preference probability that you will choose measurement set X over anything else then you have to listen - period.
