Your Post Makes A Case For NOT Doing DBTs

Soundmind you stated in your post "Wine Spectator Magazine goes to extreme lengths of double blind testing to maintain their readers' confidence in the impartiality of their evaluations. Even so, many of their own readers and non readers alike disagree with their opinions."

This seems to make a case against doing DBTs more than anything else! If after all the time and attention, not to mention money spent to perform DBTs. Wine Spectator Magazine still has many of their own readers and non readers alike disagree with their opinions. Then why do DBT's? Only as you say "...to maintain their readers' confidence in the impartiality of their evaluations?"

If I was the Editor and noticed that after all that time and attention, not to mention money I spent to perform DBTs the readers still think my reviewer's conclusions are wrong. I'd be re-thinking what has been gained by spending all that $$$$ just to prove (at least to those whom DBTs matter) that I'm impartial?
