If the artistic nuance is lacking, the listener focus of a good recording is merely the recording, and maybe the audio system............. Otherwise the enjoyment of the music is often no better (or sometimes worse) than listening to it on either a mediocre recording or mediocre audio system.But if the artistic nuance is present in spades, the listener focus of a good recording is the finer points of the performance. Subtleties that could be lost if either the recording or playback fidelity is not quite up to par.
I personally think the best compliment one can give after a listening evaluation is not how nice the system sounds, but how great the performance was..............
