Seems unlikely Pat-D-cake!

For one the Greenhill is a little on the ancient side, perhaps you can contrast that with a history of your Hero's practical experience, i.e. pretty certain his codex related work was well after the early 80s.

The summary of the Davis paper (http://www.aes.org/e-lib/browse.cfm?elib=5975) makes no mention of listening tests at all, rather "Mathematical models that provide insight into the interaction mechanisms were constructed and compared to the measured data."
