When I started participating here an AA in 1999, one the first things I encountered was snobbery and arrogance, do names like Fear3000, Dan Bonhomme and Sead Lelic ring a bell? Add folks like John Curl, who treat others as if they were teenagers.Erudition: like all folks out there, I've made up my mind about audio and high-end, with the difference that I read technical stuff, not audio mags. So any advice I'm giving audiophiles is not of the type the average audiophile expects to hear. The average audiophile is stuck that deeply in his trench that he'd rather be killed than accept advice based on reasoning other than an audiophile one.
When I tell you that the maths clearly show that it doesn't make sense to set antiskating precisely, would you believe me (or the maths, respectively)? When I explain to you that the worst stylus you can put on a cartridge is a spherical, would you believe me (or the audio experts who published corresponding papers, respectively)? When I tell you that there's more reasons than not to buy active speakers, would you believe me (or, again, the audio experts who say so)?
Someone in a German forum, whose opinion I respect because I know him as being competent in audio matters, says that most high-end speakers out there are seriously flawed. From what I've seen I fully agree. Would the average audiophile accept advice pointing to speakers that are not flawed, but don't have audiophile approval?
