But just for the record I'm going to have to say something about your observation that "differences become smaller and smaller (as the costs get higher and higher)". Mind you I'm doing so only to cover my fanny from a challenge from a certain science oriented writer who'd no doubt some day hit me with ... "you crucified me but said nary a thing to Joe Audiophile when he said the same thing".Anyway perhaps it may be true for the very top levels, I can't say. However I have been fortunate enought to hear some really great gear and would have to say that it hasn't been my experience that differences begin to fade as one climbs the ladder. For example I'd have to say I'd find it difficult to imagine someone claiming little difference between a system featuring Mark Levinson electronics and another using ARC gear as just one example. But again perhaps you're referring to stuff way way beyond ML and ARC, once more, I really don't know.
