Home Amp/Preamp Asylum

Looking for a new Amp or Preamp? If you're after tubes, post over here.

Once again I don't think you're right

Read the tech talk section on Spectron's website.

" Digital input and Analog input: Spectron Class D amplifiers are unique in that they offer both analog and digital inputs. The analog inputs are used when you have a pre-amp or other source switching and signal shaping front end. This is the conventional configuration for virtually all audiophile equipment. Spectron's analog input is available in either unbalance RCA or professional balanced XLR inputs for the greatest noise rejection. The Spectron analog to digital conversion occurs in the modulator section and as mention earlier the signal is 10 times over-sampled at 500 KHz. This AD conversion process is extremely accurate and has very low latency and is one of the key technologies responsible for the remarkable detail and sonic accuracy that Spectron amps are renowned for.

Direct digital input is available as an option on the Musician II and is standard on the Troubadour. It accepts industry standard SP/DIF electrical and with an external adapter can accept optical SP/DIF. The digital input features a remote volume control that maintains the full digital resolution, up to 24 bit, at all listening levels. With direct digital input you can directly connect a CD or DVD player. This will eliminate at least two and more typically three or more stages of DA (digital to analog) and AD (analog to digital) for the purest signal processing possible, which is... none. Even the best AD/DA converters and equipment incrementally add noise, distortion, quantizing errors and delay. Much as the switch from analog to digital allowed for perfect, noise free copies without generation loss, keeping your music pure digital right up to the speaker jacks can offer significant audio improvement. Until you try it you won't know what you're not missing. With the digital option, the balanced and unbalance analog inputs are still available with convenient front panel selection between all inputs. Thus you can connect your pre-amp with all of your other sources to the analog input and connect your CD/DVD player to the direct digital inputs."
