I'd foget about the small tweaks like wooden blocks and all that relative tomfoolery. As a remedy for a major system complaint, it's sort of like changing tire valve caps on a Ferrari to improve the handling.
Your problem is strange, indeed. Ayre electronics are neutral with just a smidge of warmth, nearly perfect. Are your Ayons too lean 'n' mean?
Your room has infinitely greater effects on the sound than does any tweak, whether it be weird wood blocks or crazy cables. No comparison, nada. Have you looked at your room through a spectrum analyzer, like an Audio Control SA3050? You might see nasty dips/peaks in the mid-HF range from early reflections, all randing over several dBs to 10-20 dB in the bass. Or, worse, your room balance might be overall lean, with too much presence and highs, and under/over damped LF.
These issues have **far** greater impact on the sound that any cable ever made. By several orders of magnitude. So, I'd lok there first.
Don't just assume by your evaluation that your room is fine; look at it with the uncomprosing eye of a good spectrum analyzer and some pink noise.
