The problem is that all modern display devices incorporate switching power supplies that have significant leakage currents on the chassis (ground - hah!) of the display. Connecting the display to your DVD player (which is then connected to the rest of your audio system) will send all kinds of high-frequency garbage into the "ground" of your audio system. This means that when you connect a TV to your audio system, both your audio and video performance are significantly degraded unless you provide special precautions.
Both the Ayre D-1xe and the DX-7e provide 100% total galvanic isolation between the audio and video connections. These can be connected with no special precautions and without any performance degradation.
HOWEVER, even with the Ayre DVD players, adding any other video source (VCR, cable box, satellite box, et cetera) will short the audio and video grounds together and defeat all the hard-won isolation provided by the Ayre DVD players.
We have included ground isolation on all of our newer products, including the AX-7e, K-5xe, and KX-R. This helps. The only other preamps that I know of that have this isolation are the (possibly discontinued) Levinson No. 32 and No. 326.
Adding a TV to your audio system is a potential disaster. Picking your way clear of this morass is difficult. Do a search on my postings on this topic for more information.
By the way, all of the above is also true for computer audio. Connecting a computer to your audio system is a sure-fire way to make all your source sound worse, unless special precautions are taken. And wireless does NOT solve the problem -- it only creates a different one. Do a search on my postings under "Wi-Fi" for more information on this.
