I think you're sorely mistaken in terms of confusing specific materials with end goals. Yes, you can damp aluminum, but does that make it the best material?
Vivid uses a very light, stiff material. Tap it -- it doesn't ring.
Other companies use mixes of materials and things like constrained-layer damping techniques.
Sorry, aluminum is one thing -- and not used by all that many. That's not to say it can't be used well -- but it's not the only thing that can be used well.
