RE: Aluminum enclosures are stupid.

The quality of the bass in a good closed box and good ported box is what I care about. My custom bass boxes were designed to be used both ported and with the port heavily stuffed. It was designed that way because the designer feared the ported box might overload his room. It didn't

I used the system ported for about a year. The ported alignment was very tight with excellent definition and with a design -3 dB point of 23 Hz(the closed box - 3 dB was 33 Hz). Finally I tried it closed and found I preferred it. Closed it was drier but with noticeable better definition due to better over hang control. But the ported box was fuller with a harmonically richer sound. I called the designer, a best friend, and we discussed what we heard and we totally agreed. But he preferred the ported box and I stayed with the closed version.

By the way he once wrote an audio article for an internet magazine called - Color Me Perfect.
