RE: Aluminum enclosures are stupid.

They are not ribbons but planars. And they are not the only ones to call planars ribbons. Most people use the terms interchangeably.

For what it's worth, I saw a clip for the Piega speaker in Hi Fi News citing the coax 'ribbon' and wrote a letter to Hi Fi News explaining it was a planar. It was published in the same issue the Piega was reviewed and the review author must have read my letter because the review explained that it was a planar driver.

The two types may look the same at first but the way driver is suspended is significantly different for the two types which does affect the way the driver moves and the way resonances develop on their surfaces.
