RE: Aluminum enclosures are stupid.

And you have to define enough bass especially if a speaker is reasonably flat say to around 40 Hz. That should be enough especially since there will be room lift. I wonder if reflex bass isn't preferred because it has a little extra bass and it lasts a little longer due to extra overhang. My own preference is for maximum bass detail which is partly due to minimum overhang(and the bass harmonics).

I always worry, as per Percey Wilson's Zanzibar fallacy, that an audiophile's reference is his own system that he's so familiar with. And I do include myself there.

Another thought that's pro for ported designs. We listen at levels where our ear bass response rolls off(Fletcher/Munson). Perhaps reflex bass compensates for this.
