Re: Good questions, but you raise many issues.

The HT speaker consists of a column of drivers similar to Maggies, but much smaller. There are wooden "wings" along the sides of the driver column that were an attempt to prevent front-to-back phase cancelation and extend the low frequency capability a bit. Perhaps it's incorrect to call the wings part of the cabinet, but that's all the cabinet there is. I have assumed all along that the occasional resonance I was hearing was the result of the thin wings going into wild oscilation because they are so darn thin. Obviously I haven't thought about it very much, 'cause it's only the HT, and it doesn't happen very often (and I want to replace the speakers anyway), but you're probably right when you say that it's probably a resonance in the drivers themselves. There's no crossover in the neighborhood, and even the wings are probably way too thick to resonate at such a high frequency. But as you point out, it could also be the wings setting up a secondary oscilation is some smaller components somewhere.

This has to STOP! Now you guy's got me thinking about the HT, and I want to spend my money elsewhere. Now I'm starting to associate the bump in the response that corrosponds to the resonance with the subsequent slow roll-off that follows. It's amazing how much you can ignore or disreguard when you're not paying attention. The HT has MANY flaws, and I really don't want to start noticing them at this time.

Be excellent,

Charles
