Thanks for the link..JC had provided that to me earlier..it is a really good writeup, IMO..

In looking at the figures, 2,3 for example, it's really interesting seeing the distortion waveforms..some are 2x freq..some 3x..

It leaves some interesting questions as to what the physical process is, as the simple models like Bob Pease's aren't of sufficient magnitude to do some of the really large ones like alum and tant..

I also fear the simple model they used, in fig B1, entirely neglects the possibility of skin effect in the "swiss roll" capacitors, which is what alums and tants can be..an intesting topic to persue later..

But all the data and writeups I've seen to date repeat the fact that lower operating gradient within the dielectric means less distortion..

For wires, the operating gradient is somewhere between 2 orders of mag lower to 4 or 6 orders of mag..and wires are rarely built as "swiss roll" construction..
