There's no need to self-limit participation and that's what you are proposing.

Media presence isn't that hard to get. Anyone serious could surely do some controlled blind testing, write up the results, and report them, for example. Send a letter to Stereophile or one of those E-magazines reporting said tests. That would be media presence.
