Pressure and stress are hallmarks of social situations where unfriendly agendas operate, or technical activities with inadequate preparation. In neither case are believable results likely to be obtained.Long-term, detailed analysis of audio components by an individual is perilous, however, because we are so eager to suspend disbelief. One of the later Sherlock Holmes short stories hinged on the crooks believing a primitive acoustic reproduction of Holmes' violin playing in the next room was real, while Holmes stood behind the curtain and listened to their discussion of their criminal activities. We would get little pleasure from listening to music if we were not easily fooled by our equipment.
Just as care and preparation are needed to make DBT results useful, a healthy respect for our rapid acceptance of tonal colorations is necessary for successful long-term reviews. I don't think the methods are in conflict: each can bring out certain aspects of equipment performance more easily than the other.
