bad science as....

If they only used SEM as claimed, the only way they can carry out a semi-qualitative compositional analysis of the QDs (if any) is by using energy-dispersive/X-ray (aka EDX) analysis.

1) observed nanoscale features may not be the result of QDs (they were probably told to look for that beforehand) but, rather, that of surface defects, network structures, sputter coating artifacts, etc. which all can have enough electron density contrast to be imaged and showup as QDs on the surface. Bottomline, using SEM alone, the presence of QDs can not be proved (we'd need to see the pics though).

2) the elemental EDX analysis does not have the beam/spatial resolution to probe QD-scale features at the surface...it will only give you a bulk value of the surface composition. So the metals they claimed to see could be attributed to simple impurities mixed in the polymer. basically a dirty chip. Usually you'd need use a complementary orthogonal method to establish the composition of the QDs, such as XRD of the crystalline phase. but of course they'd need to extract and disperse those suckers and I doubt they went throough the trouble, time, and money involved...

Anybody can claim to have carried out a test. we dont even see one SEM pic of the surface which is shown to come from the chip itself. plus the origin of the test is anonymous.

This whole thing is bad science, the chip is a hoax folks. for the nth time, I worked with QDs and THEY CAN'T DO NOTHING TO YOUR CDS in a box on top of your player!

I swore this was the last time I wrote about this...
