What they found out is that it looks like a sort of sandwich structure containing nickel/niobium on one side and copper, zinc and aluminum on the other. The actual quantum dot is inbetween, or so it is claimed. What I find quite revealing in this thread is that Geoff Kait (if it is really him) makes lots of allusions which may give the impression that ke knows more, if not all, details, but is also "sorry to evade your question as the explanation is quite lengthy". Maybe he does not want the "Definitive explanation" announced on his website to leak out prematurely.
What he did not explain is how a CD player's laser (quantum dot's energy source) is able to communicate with the chip, which may be placed anywhere in proximity to the CD player. What he did not explain is how the fluorescence (quantum dot's reaction to CD laser) communicates back to the CD.
What he did not explain is the phenomenon of "charge depletion" and "charge" of that quantum dot.
But he then states that he "thinks the chip improves the performance of the disc at the atomic level, probably improving optical transparency". Such that "the pits and lands are NOT moved, it's just that the laser "sees" them better". At least he thinks so.
Which means that the chip is indeed modifying the structure of the CD. If it is optical transparency, that should be easy to check.
However, how does the dot know that the transparency of a given CD has been previously altered ? If such a "treated" CD is put in the player an played, the player's laser will work, emit his radiation, trigger the reaction in the dot regardless of the structure (transparency) of the CD.
I get the impression that the more is explained the more questions will arise.
