New high resolution SACD releases, players and technology.

Re: This is very difficult for me to admit, but....

While I thought that I had already concluded that SACD was better, I never had done a comparison with the same disc. I recently did a comparison with the same player (you have to use the same player as different players will create a bias to the review), a modded Sony DVP S9000 es (modded by Dan Wright and then tweaked by me afterwards). I listened to the Nora Jones hybrid SACD switching back and forth between the stereo SACD and CD layers of the same disc.

The difference, while it was not huge, was very important just the same. At first it was hard to hear the difference, but additional comparison showed a difference in the, what I would call, the wholosity of the music. What I mean by that is that the imaging and soundstage is more complete with SACD compared to CD from top to bottom. I can only imagine that the additional sampling of SACD makes the difference. Just the same, I have several CDs which are recorded as good as or better than some of my SACDS, and much better than the rest of my SACDs. Thus, how the disc is recorded is preemiment, regardless of the format, including vinyl, in my reviews. This is how I know that vinyl lovers either have not heard a very well designed/modded SACD/CD player, or have not heard a well recorded SACD/CD played on such a player, when they say that vinyl is that much better than SACD/CDs (particularly SACD). Finding out what SACD player the vinyl lover claims is worse than vinyl usually bears this out.
