It is quite rare, as everyone here recognizes, to get a flat out negative review. To be responsible, the magazine should publish a second opinion, whether it was in agreement with, or differing from, the first review.
In the past, TAS use to have this kind of differences of opinion expressed in the magazine and it is sort of refreshing to see it once again.
I haven't heard the A90 (I've heard its close cousin the Per Winfield) so I cannot comment. What a negative review, and even better, multiple reviews do provide is some guidance to the prospective buyer as to what potential problem areas to focus on in an audition. It is often easy to be swept up in the favorable aspect of performance and only notice problem areas later, after extended listening. If someone else has done the extended listening and points out potential problems, it is easier to address, and assess, these issues.
