when they announce a reduction in staff. The only thing they want to do is make money and they see the return from the music editors nominal if extant. Now the coverage for a good rape, murder, or even Bond's home run record threat and the effect of his 'alleged' drug use on the value is a different thing. That keeps the readers coming back, but not me. I cancelled my subscription and don't watch net work news any longer for mujch the same reason.
I went to a Mahler performance Thursday night - it was sold out! Somebody likes classical music still, albeit lots of grey hair (if they have any at all). And it was Mahler, not Bach, Beethoven, or Mozart!!
Actually, I think that classical music enjoyed a extended period of great growth created by the recording industry which brought it to the fickle unwashed who were facinated by the process (audio) and have now moved on leaving classical music to return to its hard core of believers of its rewards.
