I think an open baffle speaker must also be a dipole.

You'll definitely observe rear output with open baffle designs. For me, however, the question is "by how much". The stator grid structure for my Sound Lab dipoles allows for the same output whether fore or aft.



With dynamic drivers, however, the rear radiation is decidedly reduced by the amount of open area available around the basket and zero for the voice coil area. With the LX521, that involves the two midrange drivers and requires a separate pair of tweeters and woofers on the back side!
