My experience with SACD has been with a $330 Sony player and SACD's that were made from master tapes. NO PCM anywhere! The sound is good and in general I'd say that, yes, it's better than CD but still not as good as a good LP setup. Decent LP's have a more natural sound with lots of depth and air that doesn't seem to come through on CD or SACD. And, how many SACD's are pure DSD? My opinion is that once something is recorded with PCM (digital) it's forever spoiled with no fix. Guess I'm lucky that I'm older and I don't want the "new music" that's only available on CD. But then again, good luck trying to find titles on SACD. Since CD and SACD have been around, classic turntable prices have shot up and more new tables and cartridges are available. There must be a reason. Manufacturers don't make what people won't buy. The downside is that the sonics from LP's are highly adjustable from the table/arm/cartridge to the preamp. Are you ready to play?
