RE: DAC USB conundrum

It is possible to have an async interface driving a memory-based reclocker or just a one-stage reclocker. Typically you have one or the other. The term reclocker has been used for all types of clocking, so it can be misleading. In this case, its really just a synchronous-logic clocking stage. All clocks are synchronized.

Reclockers can also be used for asynchronous streams, where the stream is free-running and the reclocker changes its frequency to track it. This has historically been done with analog or digital PLL's, but there are more effective ways to do this now for audio.
