Jitter is not a "audio only" phenomena, but the difference is that for data transmission, all you care about is data integrity. This is a lot easier, unless you are transmitting for miles or at multi-GHz. For audio, it is real-time, so you care about modulation of the D/A. Even at relatively low frequency, jitter has a large effect in audio.
