Upsamplers, DACs, jitter, shakes and analogue withdrawals, this is it.

It is my understanding, based on my experience

that the USB Audio CODEC comes with high levels of jitter and needs to be re-clocked.

So, a device like Empirical Audio's conversion to SPDIF or I2s in the Off-Ramp 3; or an internal, asynchronous DAC like Ayre and Wavelength, are much more better than straight on in USB. I've used my APL, and the Off Ramp 3 and am happy with the performance of both. I would love to compare an Ayre or Wavelength to what I have.
