RE: Does this seem like a reasonable system ?.

I like your post and agree with the DHTs-- use them every way you can-- but you should balance that against the very real advantages of a high-gain, single-stage front-end. Which is best? Depends on what you're doing with it, of course!

I also agree that there are many ways to arrive at excellent audio. I certainly don't want to convey that there is only one method.

I do not, however, view a different approach as a disagreement-- and that is why I get tired of personal attacks. All those do is detract from people trying to learn something from us.

I posit that learning takes place by exposure-- to everything. To try to dictate or limit that exposure is nothing more than censorship, or a form of book-burning.

Today, we live in a world of great accomplishment and wise learning--- with the very real and increasing presence of scoffers and highly-trained fools and idiots, who are already beginning to severely limit further improvements on that learning and knowledge..

To make matters even worse, we are witnessing a very real bias against "commercial" people. Now THAT, people is VERY stupid!!!! WHO feeds us? WHO clothes us? WHO keeps us warm at night? People WHO MAKE A PROFIT do those things. WHY? Because it is not possible to do it right unless the person doing it can profit enough to keep on doing it, that's why.

People who hate others making a profit are BEGGING to starve, and sooner or later, they WILL.

That undercurrent-- the hating of something "commercial" (RMAF at Denver is commercial, as an example)-- is poisoning some of our discussions here.

Let me tell you something from many years of experience-- it is this: I have never-- not ever-- seen ANYTHING done even remotely right, unless it WAS commercial.

People don't do excellent work for free because that is dishonest. The one who does the work MUST be sustained by those who he does the work for.

I don't mean to call anyone who diasgrees with me an idiot-- I want to fully hear what he has to say instead, because I will learn something valuable from it, and if he represents a commercial interest, then I will be FAR more able to work with him and trust him.

Show me a man who makes a good profit from what he is doing, and I'll show you someone who is capable, and willing-- to do it right..

An idiot is something different-- he seeks POWER. Seeking power over others is THE DEFINITION of stupid.

Instead of kow-towing to those who seek power, it is my take that others, too, are interested in hearing from all sides of a question, just as much as I am, and that they have the right to hear it. Period. They HAVE THE RIGHT. Period.. That means WITHOUT being attacked, or worse, having their source of learning attacked.

The ONLY thing I have ever objected to on this forum is the deliberate attempt to control, limit, and discourage discussion about something that is different.

I know that things that are different are challenging.

This little protected world that all of us inhabit at THIS MOMENT in time WILL PASS-- and so will most of the knowledge that is here.

We can "do unto others as you wish to be done by", or we can drive-out honest, but very different viewpoints and CHEAT OURSELVES out of something that we may badly need in the future.

Most of this forum is honest enough to allow those discussions to take place here unfettered.

But a few have an agenda-- and it has become obvious that that agenda is to block and deny certain discussions that they-- probably for vested interests of their own-- wish to obliterate before any forum members start to discover that the ideas being presented are different from that which has always been pitched, and might even work better.

That practice of censorship for undisclosed reasons, dear friends, is how entire civilizations commit suicide... they block outside knowledge and teach hatred for outsiders that have it.

Better watch out! That is exactly what is happening here.
