Since there is no "common" (shield) on glass fiber digital cables to transmit or pick up RFI, they keep the transport's RFI components to itself, and do not induce RFI from the digital signal along the cable. The problem with glass is the receiver/converter at the DAC end can *still* generate RFI. (The converter takes the optical signal and converts it to an electrical signal. The electrical signal from a conventional digital cable does not need such conversion.) Although I think it is a way to reduce RFI permeation, it is still far from a perfect solution.
