RE: Amarra

I truly appreciate John Swenson reporting his experience but Scrith you bring up some interesting points.

I'm not disputing what Mr. Swenson heard but I question what Amarra is doing to make such a profound difference... and is it "real" or some DSP trickery.

"Then we tried the Macs with and without Amara. WOW, what a difference that made. I was not prepared for this. Without Amara it sounded like the soundstage collapsed and the low end almost just disappeared. Singers sounded like plastic cutouts without it and living breathing human beings with it. Without Amara the Macs and PCs were rather similar."

If the Macs w/o Amarra sounded like the soundstage collapsed with diminished low-end and singers sounded like plastic cutouts, and the Macs and PCs without Amarra sounding rather similar, it seems to me that Amarra must be doing some sort of "enhancement".

I may be off base with this comparison but we've all done it with the LOUDNESS button on our midfi amps or the SRS "surround sound" mode on our TV sets. It sounds great for a while but we know it's not "real".

So what exactly is Amarra doing that apparently no one else has figured out?
