I've developed a bit of a prejudice against bass designs that delay the backwave to bring it in phase with the front wave at some particular frequency. I've built them and they can sound very good, but I seem to have become sensitive to the effect on the leading edge transient response of having a slug of LF energy appearing half a cycle after the transient it is supposed to be helping reproduce. It translates into a bit of a loss of transient impact without necessarily having any other significant problems, though, but I find that a significant negative.
