I completely agree on using the "sound between the notes" to assess the overall quality of any transducer, just as you described. But the choice of music material and the somewhat limited listening "window" - or time force everyone to pick certain aspects of music reproduction(resolution, truthness of timbre, attack/decay behaviour, etc..) and to focus on what's most important or easy to compare . Or, lucky if one has the ability to do so, one listens for the "wholeness" of the combination. Anyway, there was little if any opportunity to check for said silence between the notes.
And I agree on the high quality of both the Avantgarde and the LeCleach combinations, as said earlier, they were among my favorites too.
