There are certain types that claim they are horn designers who have built their little religions about what is supposedly "best" or not.
I personally have heard horns that are "supposed to be" good sound like crap, and have heard horns that are "supposed to be" unacceptable sound fine.
I haven't compared Bill Woods' designs and the lecleach/Geddes stuff side by side, but the conical-with-tractrix-transition is an old idea -- as you can see above, almost 20 years old.
Bill is pretty low-key and isn't into building some sort of little Internet religion about some "ideal" horn curve. But, he has been-there-done-that ten or twenty years ago with most of the stuff these guys talk about.
Personally, I would give his stuff a try, and ignore the Internet blowhards.
