Re: "Sacd players are pretty poor when it comes to CD so the comparison is invalid"

Hey Chris,

Before I get to far along (and so you don't have to continue reading if you wish to save time), I find SACD a big improvment over redbook CD. And that on an un-modified player (a Marantz 8260). I used to have a Rega Planet 2000 for CD playback, and enjoyed my CD's. I got the Marantz thinking I'd have to add a DAC to get equal enjoyment (as I had to sell the Rega to finance the Marantz). I was wrong! The 8260 offers equally good redbook performance - different but equal - as the Rega, and the SACD performance is an order of magnatude better than CD.

I don't dispute your findings - they are as valid as mine. Still, it has been found to be possible to enjoy both formats, even on a single player - at least by me. Could I better my CD playback? Sure. And someday I might. Can I better my SACD playback? Agan, sure. Will I? Maybe. But for now, I just enjoy the best that both formats have to offer (within by budgetary constraints).
